I am dying for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich right now. A very specific sandwich- creamy peanut butter, strawberry jelly, white wonder bread. And a big glass of ovaltine to wash it down. My wonderful husband is going to the store and will pick me up for lunch- we're going to have a little picnic together today! What a wonderful way to spend a lunch hour with the most wonderful Daddy-husband!

I hope that you don't mind that I registered here. I am from your other message board. (Laura). Anyway, I thought it was funny what you were "craving". When I was pregnant...EVERY morning I HAD to have cheerios and a glass of Ovaltine. The day after I had my son, I never had it again. Funny....there's something in the Ovaltine!! =)

You are more than welcome here, Laura!!
I can't get enough Ovaltine. We are going to have to buy another gallon of milk today- I finished it off this morning. And we'll need more Ovaltine this weekend. I can't get enough of it! And I never drink it otherwise because of the sugar. And it HAS to be Ovaltine. Chocolate milk can sustain me for an hour or so. But if I want Ovaltine, nothing else will do until I get some. I think I need to bring some in to work, too. Crazy!
I wonder what other strange cravings are heading my way...

Jason!!!
Great to see you!!
I'll tell ya, food is so weird right now. One week, I'll have something I can eat every day. The next week, I want nothing to do with it. Last week, I was eating Total for breakfast every morning. This week, I can hardly stand the thought of it. My new obsession seems to be graham crackers. Yum!!

When I was pregnant with my son, I craved only one thing (albeit in different forms): MILK! I couldn't get enough of it. We had two gallons in the house at all times and I would drink sixteen ounces all at once. I also went for other dairy products to some degree, but it always came back to milk. Unfortunately, my doctor did not warn me that this might not be such a great thing. (I figured I was lucky not to be craving ice cream sundaes and pizza!) When my son was born, he had a milk intolerance that he carries with him to this day and the pediatrician told me that it might be because of all the milk I drank! Anyway, it doesn't sound like you are drinking quite as much as I was. (I was consuming at least a half gallon a day.) I just wanted to let you know of the risk that I really wish someone had told me about.

Funny...my son also has to drink lactose free milk.
We're still trying to figure things out...I am not sure if he is "Lactose Intolerant" yet or not, but his bowel movements are very lose, so we recently had to switch to lactose free milk (he's 20 months old). So far is hasn't changed his BMs. Nim- Maybe you could give me some pointers.
Anyway, that's interesting because, I too, drank 3 cups of milk a day (mixed with Ovaltine).
Hmmmmmmmmm

Well, the milk thing only lasted that one week. Now I'm lucky to drink one glass a day.
I had a serious milk allergy when I was young- up until I was about 9 years old. Anything dairy would cause a bad ear infection. I had 4 or 5 sets of tubes in my ears up until I was about 5 years old and the allergy got figured out.
There have actually been a lot of studies on dairy and the effect it has on kids. A lot of folks believe that we start kids off on dairy products too soon and a lot of allergy and sinus troubles stem from the use and overuse of dairy. Frequently, the health issues are passed over as just being another cold.

Laura, my son has an intolerance that seems to be separate from lactose. It has something to do with the milk proteins. I even had to stop breastfeeding at two months because it was causing him to bleed internally. Every once in a while, we give him a little milk to see if the intolerance has ended. He can eat cheese now and yogurt too. But still, the milk gives him the runs. I'm hoping that it will pass with time. Until then, I supplement his diet with calcium-enriched orange juice and limited amounts of plain soy milk. I think you may be right, Liz, because my son has had very little problems at all with colds or the like. I have attributed that to the two months he was breastfed, but I'll bet it's partially due to the lack of dairy in his diet now.

I just don't know. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I KNOW at this age, his BMs shouldn't be so loose! I am going I guess continue to Lactose Free milk, and wait another 4 months until his 2 year old birthday and then ask the doctor.
